Black Friday Personality Test: What’s Your Shopping Style?
1 Nov 2026 / no comments
It’s almost that time of year again. Are you ready?
Black Friday brings out a very fascinating version of ourselves. Maybe not a version we (or our bank accounts) like, but nonetheless, it's there.
There’s the person who’s been tracking the price of the same pair of shoes for a month. The one sharing screenshots to the family WhatsApp group at 06:17. The parent who already has their Christmas gift list all mapped out.
And of course, the shopaholic who announced, quite adamantly, that they’re “not doing Black Friday this year” and is now four tabs deep into Cable & Co.
So, which Black Friday shopper are you?
1. The Researcher
“Browse” is not in your vocabulary. You’ve tracked the prices; you’ve done the homework. There are tabs. There are screenshots with notes. There may even be a spreadsheet. You take this seriously, and you approach it like any dedicated researcher would. With a fine-tuned strategy.
You are not here to waste time or miss opportunities. You know the normal price of items, and when things are actually a proper deal. You already know the colour you want, and if it’s not available, you’re not interested.
You’ve compared the Merrells and checked whether the Rockport’s really are the smarter everyday option. And you’ve already mentally packed the 3-piece luggage set for December.
By the time everyone else starts logging on, you’re basically checking out. You’re on a mission. And usually, it’s a success.

2. The Opportunist
You weren’t even shopping. You told yourself, “I’ll just have a look". Dangerous last words.
You’re the person who browses, with no intention of buying. Then something catches your eye, and, pretty soon, you're building an extremely convincing case for why you need it.
Those boots could replace the pair you've worn into the ground. That travel backpack suddenly makes complete sense for your next work trip. And actually, while you're here...
We know the allure.
We’ve had that internal debate.
And we don’t blame you.
At Cable & Co., there’s just too much temptation to resist.
Some might call you an impulse buyer. You think they’re delusional.
3. The “Treat Yourself” Shopper
You weren’t fooling yourself. You knew you’d be shopping this Black Friday. But you only came for one thing this year.
You came for those sneakers you’ve been eyeing for ages that you absolutely need to take your training to the next level. That’s all you’re allowed.
But then. You see the Peak sandals you never even knew existed, the pair of Cat sunglasses that are wildly discounted, and the cap that's going to tie the whole outfit together.
And you say to yourself, “I've worked hard all year’. I've been responsible. I've said no to things. And look how much I'm saving!”
So, you leave with them all.
Your logic? Treat yourself.
And you don’t regret a thing.

4. The “Take No Prisoners” Shopper
You’re the kind of person who has been honing their Black Friday shopping skills for years. You prefer tackling the shops on the ground and leaving the online space for the tech gurus.
You’ve mapped out the malls and arranged your route in order of importance and distance to maximise efficiency.
Hours before businesses open, you’re sitting comfortably with your coffee flask, snacks, and book. You don’t let that friend “chat & cut” the line when they show up just before the doors open. That’s just not fair to the rest of the queue. The shoppers' etiquette needs to be respected.
When the shops do open, you’re charging through the aisles, pushing the trolley with one hand and attacking the shelves with the other. You know exactly where everything is, and you waste no time ticking items off your list.
27 November is always your personal annual marathon, and usually, you’re in top place.
So, Which One Are You?
Let’s be honest. Most of us aren’t only one type.
Researcher until the plan falls apart. Opportunist approximately five minutes after payday. The one who came looking at Merrell but then ended up comparing G.H. BASS loafers and checking out a speaker that was never on your radar.

However you shop, the best Black Friday find is still something you’ll be pleased you bought long after the sale banner disappears.

Research spreadsheet optional.
